有些句子用的連接詞一樣，但翻譯出來的意思卻不一樣，那該如何區(qū)分它們的使用方式呢？

while 時間狀語從句 ≈ when當… …時

并列句 ≈ but而… …

區(qū)分方式：

一般情況下，如果while前后的內(nèi)容涉及反義（詞）關(guān)系則可理解為并列句，翻譯為“而”；否則就把其當作時間狀語從句理解。

As is known to us all, failure usually results from laziness while diligence can result in success.

眾所周知，失敗往往源于懶惰，而勤奮往往使人成功。

While the figures for the European countries grew to about 16% in around 1996, the figure for Asian countries dipped to 8%.

并列句（表轉(zhuǎn)折）≈ but然而，但是

區(qū)分方式：

However引導(dǎo)并列句表示“然而”時，通常都會在其后方帶有逗號。但引導(dǎo)讓步狀語從句時則不帶逗號。

However, public infrastructure did not keep pace with urban sprawl, causing massive congestion problems which now make commuting times far higher.

然而，公共基礎(chǔ)設(shè)施無法跟上城市擴張的步伐，這就導(dǎo)致了大規(guī)模的交通堵塞問題，并且使上下班的時間大大延長。

if 條件狀語從句如果，假如

主語從句、賓語從句≈ whether 是否

區(qū)分方式：

If一般用于引導(dǎo)條件狀語從句，位置置于句首或句子后半部分皆可，句子中間可以出現(xiàn)逗號; 但引導(dǎo)主語從句或賓語從句時，if不能置于句首，只能放在句子后半部分并且句中不能使用逗號斷句。

If tide, wind and wave power are all developed, Britain would be able to close gas, coal and nuclear power plants.

如果潮汐、風(fēng)力和海浪發(fā)電都能得到開發(fā)，那么英國就能關(guān)閉天然氣、煤炭和核能發(fā)電站。

Growth and environmentalism can actually go hand in hand, if politicians have the courage to confront the vested interest that subsidies create.
